Plagiarism

Plagiarism means copying the ideas and the work of another person and present those as your own without mentioning the name of the actual author. Plagiarism is very unethical and it is necessary to avoid such acts in order to encourage creativity.

Kinds of Plagiarism

There are many types of plagiarism which are as follows:

  1. Copy and paste
  2. Word switch
  3. Style
  4. Metaphor
  5. Idea

Explanation of the kinds of plagiarism

Copy and paste

It means that when the writer copies the sentence from the source and past it in his/her paper without quoting the name of the author. This type is very common because as now every child is using the internet and there is much information available on the internet regarding every type of topic, so they used to copy the sentences from there to relevant to their topic.

Word Switch

The word switch is another kind; it means that when the writer copies the whole sentence and then switches one word to another place within the sentence, the writer must know that this type again comes in plagiarism so it should be discouraged. If the writer wants to add the saying and the line written by other different authors then the best way is to write it within the quotation marks but the author’s name is essential.

Style

The style is one of the kind, in which the author copy the sentences and paragraphs in a sequence as mentioned in the source but here the words are changed, basically, in this kind the writer is copying the reasoning style of the author. The students/writers usually copy the metaphor of the source.

Idea

If you as a student copying the idea and the resolution of the problem from the source then it is necessary for you to mention the name of the author who has created that idea.

Academic Plagiarism

In the academic scenario, the students used to do a lot of plagiarism but they need to be stopped by their professors by not accepting their assignments done with plagiarism, the main trauma is that the students don’t want to carry out researches to get the knowledge about the thing, they just used to write what is on the grounds written by other authors.

Reasons For Plagiarism

There are many reasons due to which the students/writers need to go for plagiarism and these are as follows:

Sometimes the students get very depressed while doing the work because maybe of improper time management, they don’t like the topic, the tutor is not giving attention to the student issues of assignments, The assignments are more complicated than the sills of the students and mostly the student has a perception that they just have to clear the assignment and not gain good marks.

Guidelines For Avoiding Plagiarism

There are many ways through which one can avoid plagiarism in their work like each time the author should write in original words and with new ideas without thinking of the present work done relate to the particular topic. It is the duty of the teachers to discourage the students from performing plagiarism rather than to find plagiarism in their works. Tell students about online plagiarism checkers, so that they can check plagiarism from their work. The instructor should give orders to the students that if they have been caught doing plagiarism then their marks would be detected.
