Creativity is quite useless when it comes to writing without any direction. The writing topics not only give you a clear direction about what to write, but they also set the undertone that remains in your written work from the start to the beginning.

It is a well-known fact now that almost all the creative writers start writing whenever they feel the rush of creativity inside their minds. This could be a single incident, a memory flash or a déjà vu of sorts. After this, the writer usually looks for the suitable topic that he could relate to his recent experience and starts writing on that topic.

Whether you are writing

an essay or preparing for some language proficiency test, you cannot start without any topic. It works as a goading stick for you throughout your work. For certain types of people, there are specific writing topics. Since all people have different likes and dislike, some might like to have literary writing topics, while some would like to have history and geography as their writing topics.

But selecting a topic is not an easy thing to do especially for the people who have creative minds. The problem with creativity is that it is so vague and ambiguous that it takes too much of your time to come to a definite conclusion about what to write and whatnot. If getting started is the hardest part of the writing process, close behind it (and closely related to it) may be the challenge of finding a good topic to write about.

an instructor will solve that problem for you by assigning a topic. But at other times you’ll have the opportunity to choose a topic on your own. And you really should think of it as an opportunity–a chance to write about something you care about and know well. So relax and just do not hurry into the things and let them settle down. Don’t worry if a great topic doesn’t immediately spring to mind.

Be ready to play with a number

of ideas until you settle on one that truly interests you. By relaxing, your mind will be able to think more creatively and then you will be able to focus on whatever idea you are having at that time. To help get you thinking, you can take help from the internet where you can find plenty of suggestions for writing topics. But they are only suggestions. Along with some freewriting and brainstorming (and maybe a good long walk), they should inspire you to come up with plenty of fresh ideas of your own.

you will be able to categorize your topics into broad categories which are a common way of developing paragraphs and essays. But you must not feel limited by these categories. You’ll find that many of the topics can be adapted to suit almost any kind of writing assignment.
