Plagiarism Examples

Plagiarism is a plague especially when it concerns academic publications, journals or other such work of an author. This wrongful appropriation not only hurts the author whose idea or thoughts has been copied but also hurts the entire academic institution. Plagiarism can of any thing be it a book or any other piece of writing, a work of art or journalism.

Plagiarism is usually categorized into two kinds. The first one is when another author’s work or opinion is copied exactly without giving any sort of acknowledgement to that author and the second type is when the sequence of idea, material arrangement and also the thought pattern of another person is copied without acknowledgement.
We see many examples of Plagiarism around us. Some years ago it was rather difficult to plagiarize and publish a copied work of art. Today internet has made everything easy. It has become very easy to publish your work and on the other hand for a plagiarist it is easy to copy someone’s work and publish it as his own or anonymously.
Over the world wide web, the most common form of literary plagiarism is changing the title of the original work and keeping the rest of the copy same. That way people never get to find out that their work has been copied. As usually content is searched on the basis of the title and because of which that particular copied content never comes up during a search. So the plagiarist gets to cover up his traces.
Another type of plagiarist is the one who gets the copied content mixed. So if the topic is ‘seven wonders of the world’, he is going to search for the topic and take out relevant content. he will copy content from a few of these sites and then combine them to form one piece of writing. That way there are lesser chances of detection and there is a variety in the work that is being copied.
Sometimes images and pictures are copied without proper acknowledgement to the source. These are also work of someone’s imagination and creativity and need to be properly credited. It is in fact very simple to copy such things because of open availability over the internet.
Plagiarism in any form and type is detrimental to the creative health of the society. Much advancement has been done to counter plagiarism. New ways and websites have been launched for this purpose. Most of these web sites work on the same principle. This detection software makes use of search engines such as Google and yahoo to check out for plagiarism. Thus the huge database of these search engines is searched for finding out the relevant material.
Some websites have taken measures to stop or limit online plagiarism. On these websites right clicking has been disabled making it virtually impossible for other to copy content by selection. However, this seldom stops the plagiarists from copying words and ideas. So it is all about moral values and civic sense that enlightens a person and stops him/her from copying.
